Change can be difficult even when it is wanted or needed but when we decide to not fight the occurrence but to instead, go with the flow, we can find ourselves in the perfect place. In the summer of 2012 our three party birth team became a two person team. The senior apprentice and Delphine had made the decision to end their preceptor/apprentice relationship.
Never wanting to rock the boat I was instantly worried that my determination and yes, sometimes begging, to learn the art of midwifery had in some way caused a rippling that had knocked their ship unsteady. Both women ensured me that this wasn't the case and that it was a mutual choice on both of their parts. During our initial conversation I hadn't quite realized what this change met. The first time I heard it said, I couldn't believe it, I was a senior apprentice. I had been in Midwifery school since March of 2012 and been attending prenatals and births since November of 2011! During my countless hours of daydreaming while nursing Vera did I ever suspect that I would be an apprentice of anything, let alone something as special as Midwifery.
Sometimes change is better than you ever expected it to be.
